Burbank, CA
Opened: 1996
Address: 2311 N. Hollywood Way
Theme: 1950s Science Fiction
Located less than ten miles from Hollywood, the Burbank location embraced a "1950s Science Fiction Movies" theme, with a full-scale flying saucer appearing to have crashed into the front of the building. Inside, the decor paid tribute to classic sci-fi films: a giant octopus bursting through a wall referenced It Came From Beneath the Sea (1955); a statue of Gort carrying Patricia Neal was modeled after the poster for The Day the Earth Stood Still (1951); massive ants suspended from the ceiling were once incorrectly rumored to be original props from Them! (1954); and the smaller alien figures placed throughout the store took inspiration from the original 1962 Mars Attacks trading cards, later adapted into the 1996 film. Finally, in a fitting tribute to its theme, the store's exterior was featured as a filming location in Jordan Peele's sci-fi horror film Nope (2022).
