Fry's Icon Dallas, TX

Exterior

Former Incredible Universe location

Opened: 1998

Address: 12710 Executive Dr.

Theme: Cattle Ranch

The Dallas store was one of six locations acquired from Incredible Universe in 1996 and redesigned with a Western cattle ranch theme in a nod to Texas's long history of cattle ranching. Fiberglass longhorn skulls lined the building's exterior, while, just inside the entrance, customers were greeted by a ranch-style gate marked with a "Lazy K Ranch" sign (a reference to traditional cattle branding, where a letter lying on its side is called "lazy"). Key features included: a life-sized model longhorn, an old-fashioned windmill model, scenic murals depicting open plains and ranch life, a checkout counter and various other display platforms constructed from "wooden crates," customer service desks resembling wooden carts, and even figures posed in a brawling saloon-style fight that spilled over the upper railing.
